Party Time!

Posted by: DL  /  Category: Life Matters, Social Matters

Now that the Spring is in full swing and the Summer is rapidly approaching, the graduation, house warming, anniversary, baby showers, engagement and wedding parties are quickly taking over.

I went to a graduation party, a few nights ago, for a girl who I know very well. I’d definitely consider her a friend. There was tons of different types of ethnic foods, kids running around, people talking, laughing, reflecting, it was really a good gathering. Although, the hall where they rented was very small and not a well thought out space, it seemed to get smaller by the minute, with all the joyful and exuberant folks around.  But, we tried our best to make the best of the situation.

We all had a blast at this party, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. But, it made me kind of sad thinking that my time at those parties are numbered. Only about 1 month left before we move out of state.

But, I’ll keep in contact with many of the folks I know through this blog, e-mails, and of coarse the social networking sites that I’m so fond of.

It just amazes me how good going to a party and enjoying ourselves, did for both my son and myself (since it was an all girl party and my husband didn’t attend). It’s good to get out and forget about your own life for a while. My mind was far away from the thoughts of packing, prepping, discontinuing bills, buying plane tickets, getting a trailer, etc. I pushed all of that to the back of my mind and just enjoyed myself, for the night.

So, the next time somone offers you an invitation to a party, make the time out of your busy schedule to go, and give yourself a much needed break.  Just enjoy yourself!!!  You’re your best advocate!  So, enjoy the next party you attend, and be safe!

The Ideal World

Posted by: DL  /  Category: All Postings, Life Matters

On June the 7th 1996, I was sitting in my English class in 9th grade. Our assignment was to write a poem about our ideas of “The Ideal World”. Our teacher informed us that we only had 10 minutes to come up with something and that we should probably not attempt to make it rhyme because we had a limited amount of time, and probably wouldn’t be able to come up with anything brilliant during that time (according to her).  I didn’t listen (as I often don’t), and decided to write a poem that rhymed, with however much time I actually had.

As I was packing up things for our upcoming move, I found this poem on a small piece of paper and decided to share it with you.

The Ideal World

The Ideal world is a place where no one is afraid to be,

The grass is green, the sky is blue;

I run through the fields, it’s utterly true,

I can’t think of anything better to do;

-

I smell the flowers and see the bees;

and after all, I’m near the seas;

I love the country and see the trees;

Is there anywhere else you’d rather be?

The people are nice, the children are free,

do you agree with me?

-

How sweet it is the smell of Summer;

let us all go there or it’ll be a bummer;

To live somewhere where there is no smog;

remembering the city would only be a fog;

So do you see what the ideal world could be?

-

Close your eyes and concentrate;

then maybe we can penetrate;

into a world without crime;

where we won’t have to worry about the grime;

Do you see what this ideal world could be?

-

Go to that place every time you feel low;

don’t be afraid to let the images flow;

Close your eyes and open up your heart;

don’t worry about falling apart;

the world is at your finger tips;

just say the words on your lips;

-

You will drift to a place far, far away;

don’t think about city life, or you might just want to stay.

-

Needless to say, I got a good grade on that paper, and when I read it aloud to the class, they were all shocked with what I was able to come up with in such a short amount of time.  And I  was actually in shock myself. At that point, I realized that writing would become a huge part of my life…

Mortality

With the recent shocking losses of several famous figures, many people are thinking quite deeply about their own mortality.  It usually takes a big shock from the loss of a star, or someone close to us, to push us to the brinks of contemplating our own death.

It’s a normal part of life, where on one hand there’s new life, there’s also death on the other.  When a person looks inward and figures out what they are leaving behind them, it may reprioritise their lives.

When we are gone, will we be: missed, loved, leave everyone we know saddened about our loss, will we have made certain people’s lives better (during our lifetimes), did we donate enough, did we care enough, did we always lend a listening ear, did we do things for the sake of good or did we do things just to selfishly prosper on our own and we forget about everyone else?

These questions and a lot more come to mind when thinking of  mortality…

So, before you take someone’s death lightly next time, remember that we don’t have any guarantee on how long we will live, so instead of living selfishly today, be sure to do things that will make a difference in the life of others, to rest somewhat peacefully once you’re gone.

Blog

So, the last several days, I’ve been so concentrated on packing and preparing for the move, that I’ve totally neglected myself and not gone out anywhere for a couple of weeks now.

It’s like they say, if you’re in one place shut in for too long you get some sense of cabin fever.  I am kind of going stir crazy in this place for this amount of time.

Me and the girls usually get together once a week, but last week we didn’t because we didn’t have the chance to.  So, I’ve been here, in my apartment, for a long while and I’m feeling the repercussions of it now.

It doesn’t help that I’ve had an aching back for the last 1 -2 weeks. I don’t truly believe that it has anything to do with the move though. I don’t think I lifted anything heavy, as I sit and ponder about it now.

I hope to get out soon because I have several things I need to purchase for the trip, and for the baby, and if I don’t go out and get them, I’ll just flip!

In this state (WA) we’ve waited so long for the sun to come out, and the weather to warm up, that it’d be a shame if I stayed locked in the apartment during the Spring & Summer.  But, honestly, lately it’s been rainy and gloomy here, a vast change from what usually goes on around here (NOT!).

I can honestly say, I look forward to finishing up everything here, and moving out of state, to start over somewhere fresh. A new place, with a vast difference in climate.

Instead of living far in North-West America, I will be moving to the Mid-East America.  The climate is bound to be different and things should look very different there.  I will look forward to Fall to see how the season change looks over in that region.

Either way, I grew up in New Jersey and I am used to the rain, but not so used to the constant gloom in the North-West, for 9-10 months out of the year. I really am excited about this move, and more than anything, I’m happy my family will have a chance to come together again.

TV Obsessed

Seems like now-a-days almost everyone has a TV in their homes.  With the invention and distribution of DVRs (digital video recorders), you can now preset what shows you like to watch and it will record it for you.

I was always an avid TV watcher and enjoyed watching when I wanted a break or want to rest my mind from whatever things were occurring in my own life.

But, I’ve been using DVRs for years now, and with it I feel an immense sense of freedom, that I hadn’t previously felt before using this product. I can preset movies to record or shows I like to watch, and sit down and watch whatever show I want, when I want it.  It allowed me the freedom to do whatever chores I had to do, to care for my son, as well as blog on this site, at my own pace, and when I needed a moment of peace, without too much of a hassle, I’d sit down and watch a prerecorded program.

The amount of hours I used to watch TV, versus the amount of hours I currently watch TV has decreased dramatically. Because I’m no longer channel surfing trying to find something that suits me. It’s all waiting for me to click it, in my DVR queue.

I highly recommend getting a DVR if you don’t already have one… Some cable companies and satellite companies offer these systems for free, when you get your system installed.  If you have a friend or family member that already has one, you know exactly what type of freedom I’m talking about.

So, the next time you’re bored, need something to do, aren’t in the mood to talk to a friend, read, or what have you, plop yourself down on your big monster of a couch and just vegetate to the show of your choice.
