Mosquito Bites!

Posted by: DL  /  Category: Health Matters, Life Matters

In Western Washington, we didn’t have to worry much about mosquito bites. In fact, I can’t remember the last time that I got bitten by one.  But, once we entered Indiana, it’s like the mosquito’s smelled fresh blood and came a-runnin’.

Between my husband, myself and my son, we have hundreds of bites. Even if we stay indoors, a few stray mosquito’s find their way in, when we open and close the doors and end up biting us throughout the night, for the entire night.

My poor son looks like he has been dealing with the chicken pox or something because his arms, legs, face,  and neck are covered with old bite  marks, as well as having a few fresh one, since last night.

I mean, short of praying every square inch of our bodies with mosquito repellent, is there any other way to keep them at bay? I feel like a prisoner, unable to even go out in the backyard for a few moments.

I’m hating the humidity here, I had forgotten how miserable it can be with the humidity. New Jersey was bad, but not this bad.  It could be only 80 degrees outside, but the humidity makes it feel like it’s 120 degrees. I much prefer the heat of the desert, like California’s heat. It’s hot, but not at all sticky or muggy.

I think tonight I’ll have to cover my son in repellent and hope he doesn’t get bit, because I can’t stand watching him covered in bite marks. Thankfully he hasn’t been itching or scratching at them, but i’ve itched and scratched a fair share of my own mosquito bites.

Let’s hope the weather turns cool really soon, so we can somewhat feel some relief, because as of this point, i’m not enjoying the weather in Indiana at all!

Nap Time!

Most people know that babies and children are required to sleep in order to grow properly. But, most people neglect themselves.  It’s almost as if they have to get permission from someone  before they can decide to go and take a nap.

If people are working, and they need a nap when they get home, they should. If the body feels tired, you shouldn’t fight it. You should do as your body tells you and relax when you can, sleep when you can, and rest when you can.

Most Mother’s know that their kids don’t usually sleep well through the night for the first year or two, or they are so busy with life, they aren’t able to sleep properly. But, they should go out of their way to take a nap along with their kids, if they can. It recharges the body, mind, and spirit when done when the body is in dire need of it.

That reminds me, I’m off to bed!

Don’t Criticize!

Often times people are so set in their ways, they often don’t use the proper responses to when someone is helping them or doing something to aid them, and it isn’t to their liking.  They immediately jump on what the person may or may not be doing wrong, compared to the way they would have done it.

I consider it quite rude for someone to criticize another person, although they are attempting to help with the situation (whatever it may be).  Let them do it their own way, while they watch you do it your way and they’ll eventually learn the whole thing and how you want it to be.

But, when you go out of your way to make them feel an inch tall, they might not even offer to help you or anyone else again.

Case and point, I recently helped a relative cook dinner.  I do it a bit differently that this person does it, but I was criticized and somewhat humiliated because I didn’t do it the “right way”, which of coarse was “their way”.  Never mind you that I have a Culinary Degree, graduating at the top of my class, or that I have years of Culinary experience before and after Culinary school.  Nope, I just didn’t do it right (in their eyes).

But then, when a third party came in and saw the result of what we had both cooked,  she looked at the food I had prepared versus the food that the other person prepared, then she criticized the other person’s food. Then the accuser felt the sting of harsh words and criticism, but I thought she needed a little taste of her own medicine, so I sat back in bliss.

Karma- what goes around comes around…

Blog

For the last few months we’ve been going through the chaos of the packing, preparing, and moving out of state. We finally moved out of the state, but it’s seriously been more than a few months since I wrote in my novel.

As of the last word count I did, I had over 40,000 words written, with only about 10,000 words to go.  I left it at that and wasn’t able to continue for the longest time. Although, I felt as if I had an itch I couldn’t scratch because I felt really horrible that I hadn’t yet completed the book.

I remembered that I needed to cut myself some slack because most writers are not going through the moving process, while trying to complete a book. At the same time, if the writter is published and successful, they have enough money to pay for people to pack things for them and move them. Without really moving an inch or raising a finger. Must be nice…

But, now that I feel most of the mess of the move is behind us, I decided to get back on top of this book and trying to complete it.  I’m hoping that we are then able to find a good publisher that’s willing to work with us and hopefully start publishing my masterpiece.

At this point, I’m trying not to bite off more than I can chew, so I’m honestly thinking only one step at a time.  I’m trying not to overwhelm myself with the knowledge of the battle with publishers that lies ahead of us. I just hope for the best.

I must keep on diligently working to get my book published, continue writing and exploring and delving into every corner of my nogin to figure out how to make my books fun, enticing, juicy, terrifying, electrifying, and intreaging, while keeping the reader ready and willing for a scare around every corner… That much I’ve accomplished so far, and I hope to continue doing so until the very end of every novel I write.  That’s what keeps me going.

One Order of Calm and Cool Please

One thing that I really hated about Washington State was the fact that it seemed to be rainy or gloomy almost all of the time.

Once we moved to Indiana, I thought those days were over. But, we seem to be having a Summer storm here every few days.  Thunder, rain, lightning, all very beautiful and mystifying, but still, did I leave a rainy place just to go to another rainy place?  It’s just a thought that has crossed my mind.

The good thing about the West Coast is that there isn’t a lot of humidity.  Once we reached here (Indiana), we could tell the vast difference. Although the thermometer may say 83 degrees or something around there, the humidity makes it feel much hotter and stickier.  I had forgotten how sticky the East Coast could be.

Either way, every region has it’s positive and negetive attributes, that we can all agree upon.  But, the thing that will probably make the biggest difference is our jobs.  If my husband isn’t able to find a job around here and the income doesn’t restart flooding in soon, then we’re up a creek without a paddle (we left this passage PG13 for our wide variety of viewers).

Many things may change with us over the coming weeks, but you’ll just have to sit back and wait while we figure out a valid plan to get our lives back on track!
