Every now and again a person’s normal routine is interrupted and they happen to fall victim to insomnia. Insomnia is one of my least favorite incidences, and I can say that I truly despise it.
Either you’re too sick to sleep through the night, you’re woken up by a little person (your child), you can’t stop your mind from thinking about endless things (over and over), or you’re pained due to illness of some sort.
Tonight for instance, we rearranged my sons room, set up a new toddler bed that his Grandma bought him as a gift (yes, another bed), and figured he’d sleep well since he was very tired throughout the day. Well, guess again!
He slept and woke up every hour for the last few hours, and woke me up along with him. He eventually woke at 3:30 am, with no intention of returning to sleep.
Although I have a head cold, my head is stuffy and runny, as well as my mounting exhaustion due to lack of sleep, I really needed the extra sleep.
But, it seems as though he’ll stay sitting here in my lap forever, unless I put a stop to it. Pretty soon once he’s gotten his wiggles out, I’ll plop him back in bed, and see if he’s willing to grant me some much needed sleep. I need some measure of mercy to get through this cold, as well as everything else I mentioned.
Common advice for people who are having trouble sleeping is to drink warm milk (which I did for him), drink chamomile tea, take a warm bath, get comfortable before bedtime, dim the lights about one hour before bedtime, etc. I did most of those things for him, and yet here we are. I guess the teething is a factor as well.
Either way, I hate insomnia (be it mine or someone else’s in my family) if it alters MY sleep pattern!!

Some of us even don’t realize the importance of this information. What a pity.
